If we name it magic, it won’t be wrong. Elif Shafak’s mystic storytelling has unwrapped two epic tales, one covering another. The cover story is of a housewife Ella Rubenstein, who comes to read a novel entitled “Sweet Blasphemy” as her assignment at a literary agency. Sweet Blasphemy has forty rules of true and passionate love narrated by a Sufi Saint Shams Tabriz which he addressed during the events he went through while his voyage to Konya. It’s a beautiful story of a thirteenth-century poet “Rumi” and Shams friendship, teaching the readers compassion and purity of a relation, and how we all are connected to the divine God.

Ella finds herself getting compelled towards the novel as well as the author who is anonymous and finds a way to flirt with him through e-mail. Before she was a miserable poor housewife being cheated on by her husband, as she starts relating the events of the characters in the book, she experiences serenity and a pause. You’ll experience the same because it’s a symbol of true love, empathy, and humanity; claiming that God resides in every heart.
